__________________________________________________________________________ Northwest Nexus: How the halcyon-announce mailing list works Q. I subscribed to halcyon-announce as you described, but I haven't received any announcements, yet. But I *have* received several messages that contain a line like this: Mailed 0 article(s) from 0 group(s) Is there something going wrong? A. Actually, this means that there's something going right! We don't post announcements every day to halcyon.announce, so that's probably why you haven't seen anything yet. As for those messages, it's as if you sent someone to your post office box to check and see if there was anything in it. They'd come back either with letters and say, "Hey, you got three letters today!" or they'd tell you, "Nope, no mail came today." You get those messages twice a day, because the mailing list makes two trips a day to the halcyon.announce newsgroup. Q. Okay, but I don't need to be told I didn't get anything. Can I stop those messages? A. No, but you can treat them the way you do junk mail -- toss 'em out without reading them. You can do this by hand, by using the excellent mail-filtering features that are included in the commercial versions of Eudora, or by being brave and writing a procmail script to throw away the messages even before you see them. Here's where to look for more info: Procmail and filtering: Eudora: 1-800-2EUDORA eudora-sales@qualcomm.com Q. Hey, can I use these neat tools to mail newsgroups of my own choosing to myself? A. Sure -- the tin newsreader and the "at" queue on halcyon are all you need, but that's not saying much. There's a much easier way; check our our FAQ entitled: Newsgroups: Mailing postings in newsgroup to oneself regularly Q. I can't stand it anymore -- how do I get off this list? A. If you'd like to be REMOVED from this list, send a mail message to: majordomo@halcyon.com ...that contains these two lines in the *body* -- not the subject, but the body -- of the message: unsubscribe halcyon.announce end If you want to reSUBSCRIBE, or someone else does, send a mail message to: majordomo@halcyon.com ...that contains these two lines in the body of the message: subscribe halcyon-announce end If you have questions about the list, send them to: support@halcyon.com (6-Jun-95/nwnhtham/MJT) ___________________________________________________________________________ Copyright 1996 Northwest Nexus Inc.
