Northwest Nexus:  Keeping up with system announcements via mail


Q.  I know that you post important system announcements to the
    halcyon.announce newsgroup, but I don't read news much.  How can I
    keep up to date on what's happening with the system?

A.  We've known all along that not everyone's going to be thrilled
    about reading newsgroups, even if that's the primary way we keep
    you informed of system changes and problems.  But using
    halcyon.announce as we do as the central respository of such
    announcements works for us and for those of our users who are news-
    literate.  What to do?

    We've provided at least a partial answer:  the halcyon-announce
    mailing list.  Postings to the halcyon.announce newsgroup will,
    twice a day, be mailed to subscribers to this list; you'll also
    receive reports telling you what was mailed as a constant reminder
    that you're subscribed to this list, even if there isn't much
    activity in the halcyon.announce group.  (In case you're wondering,
    no, we can't turn those reports off, and yes, if you want to have
    articles in *other* newsgroups mailed to you automatically, you can
    use the same tool we did; see our "Mailing yourself newsgroups"
    FAQ.)

    To add yourself to the list, send a mail message to:

         majordomo@halcyon.com
       
    ...that contains these two lines in the body of the message:

         subscribe halcyon-announce
         end

The halcyon-announce list exists to mail postings in the
halcyon.announce newsgroup to anyone who'd prefer to get their
information on what's happening, what's up, and what's down with
Northwest Nexus and the halcyon systems.

Subscriptions are open to any Northwest Nexus customer.

Regarding this interest list:  it's being managed by Majordomo, a
mailing-list management program.  This is a one-way list, not
a discussion group -- all it does is forwards what we post in
halcyon.announce.  If you want to discuss what you receive,
