Northwest Nexus:  Servers and IP Addresses


The following is a list of the information you're likely to need when
setting up SLIP and PPP drivers, TCP/IP stacks, and network clients for
use with Northwest Nexus Personal SLIP and Personal PPP accounts:

   o All our SLIP and PPP accounts are set up by default to use header
     compression.  This means you should select "CSLIP" or "Van Jacobsen
     CSLIP Compression."
  
   o Personal SLIP and PPP accounts do not have pre-assigned IP addresses;
     our server assigns you an address from a pool each time you log in.
     Chameleon, InterSLIP, or other program must parse the assigned
     address; that's what the SLIP.INI file (in Chameleon) and the
     Northwest Nexus gateway script (in InterSLIP) does.  PPP software
     automatically determines assigned IP address and other parameters;
     if your PPP software supports PAP, you may select that as well, as
     our servers support PAP authentication.  Using PAP authentication
     eliminates the need for a connect script of any kind, simplifying
     your configuration.

  o  Our news servers do *not* support authentication; do not fill in
     those fields in your news reader.  If your newsreader demands
     authentication -- only one or two on the Mac do, and none on the
     PC -- you must choose "POP Authentication" and use your regular
     login name and password.
