______________________________________________________________________________ SLIP/PPP (PC): Getting and setting up Trumpet Winsock Q: I don't want to buy a commercial package. Should I use Trumpet Winsock? A: Trumpet's advantage is that it's relatively inexpensive shareware. Its disadvantage is that it's not for the faint of heart -- it works, but be prepared to spend a few days mucking around with it in frustrating ways to get it to work. It might work on the first try...but it might not. Q: Where do I get Trumpet Winsock? A: Download this file: This contains the Trumpet software and configuration files to use it with a PPP account on our systems. There's a file called winapps2.zip that includes some simple clients that are of mild interest. There are far better clients that perform the same functions elsewhere in the same directory tree. Q. Where do I find out all the info I need to set up Trumpet Winsock? A. If you use the file mentioned above, you won't have to worry about any of that. If not, send mail to support@nwnexus.net or call our office and we'll send you our "Northwest Nexus: Servers and IP Addresses" FAQ. Q. Is it free? A. Nope -- it's $20 shareware. See the documentation for where to send your money, or use the reasonably-easy Register option in the menus, which will send your registration via secure transmission right to Australia. Trumpet Winsock is good solid software that costs a lot more from other vendors, and Peter Tattam and his Trumpet Software International deserve the cash. Register today!
